Woman Charged After Midlands-Area Crash That Killed Couple, Injured Kids

Law enforcement officials have charged a 25-year-old woman after Saturday night’s fatal wreck on a Midlands-Area road.

Paris Jones of Denmark is now accused of multiple crimes. Her 2007 Chrysler collided with a 2015 Nissan which was occupied by a couple and their two children.

Aiken County Coroner Darryl Ables said the driver of the Nissan, Delanie Murphy, 41, and Dave Chavis Jr., 29, who was in the front seat, died at the scene.

The children suffered serious injuries and they were taken to Augusta University Medical Center. They were said to be in serious condition. No specific information about their injuries was released.

The crash happened around 9 p.m. on Charleston Highway on the road which is also known as U.S. 78. It runs through Windsor and is less than 50 miles south of Columbia.

Murphy was heading east when she turned left, and her car was hit by the Chrysler which was going in the opposite direction.

Ables said both drivers were wearing seat belts. Their autopsies will take place on Monday in Newberry.

Cpl. Sonny Collins of the South Carolina Highway Patrol reported that a passenger in the Chrysler suffered minor injuries.

Meanwhile, jail records show Jones was arrested a little before 11 p.m. on Sunday and taken to the Aiken County Detention Center.

She is accused of:
